$257 FOR A PRINTER THAT ARRIVED DAMAGED AND WE ARE STUCK!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

This item arrived DEAD ON ARRIVALin other words, DAMAGED. Because it was a present, we didn't realize the item was damaged until we attended a graduation party for the recipient and saw them open it, revealing that something under the hood had been broken.

The item cost $179, including tax and shipping, totaling $257. However, because a month passed from the time we purchased it from Amazon until this issue arose, we missed the return deadline; therefore, Amazon is equally to blame, if not more so. After several attempts to call them, they refused, and we're out over $250 with a useless printer.

I am livid, and I will live with this, Pissed Consumer. Enough is enough.

After firmware update, cartridges not recognized

I Installed a firmware update, and now the printer can no longer "recognize" my print cartridges which had been working fine until the update. Word on the Internet is that Epson deliberately tries to punish people who buy replacement cartridges from other vendors, so they can sell their overpriced ones, and they do that by updating the firmware so that other vendor cartridges are "not recognized".

This is despicable. I will never buy another Epson product. They have even spawned a cottage industry that for $5 sells a firmware downgrade.

It is cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy Epson replacement cartridges. Their business practices are predatory and should be illegal.

That appears to be my experience as well! I will no longer purchase another Epson. AND I will tell others!

Epson is a horrible product backed by a useless company support team. You cannot call them.

You have to email them to discuss the problem with my 3 month old printer that only prints in yellow now. After repeated useless emails from a so called support team telling me I need to replace all my ink cartridges, which still did not correct problem, They tell me to call them. Excuse me but That was the first thing I tried and it told me I had to email support team. Wow!!

How professional are these people that they do not even know what is going on in there own support network.

Nothing has ever been resolved from this mess. Very unsatisfied with Epson product and company and their useless support or warranty!

Guest

I just updated the firmware on an epson WF-2850 it now tells me 3 of 4 cartridges are empty after i just them in. i guess I'm going to pull out the HP and get some cartridges for it this epson all in one is junk

Guest

This just happened to me. I just updated and now my Epson XP5100 will not read the black cartridge.

All are refilled.

I don't print that much, I only bought this about 6 months ago. I'm going to Walmart and by a $40.00 Canon.

You can find instructions online (including some on Youtube and some much further down this thread) that tell you how to uninstall the new firmware and reinstall the old firmware. I did that a few years ago and haven't had any problems since. Just make sure to disenable automatic updates so you don't encounter the same problem again.

Guest

Boycott Epson . Their software updates refuse to accept non epson cartridges.

This is illegal.

their cartridges are massively overpriced. Dont touch with a bargepole.

Guest

I totally agree--This happened to me this past week. I am done with Epson.

Guest

Have spent 8 hours trying to fix it XP-440 as they told me to place a new Firmware update... and poof now the ink catridges that have been working for 2 years no longer works///

Romi Acc
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2000100

You need to find an older version of the Firmware and go back to that. You can find videos on youtube that tell you how to do it.

I did that several years ago and haven't had a problem since.

Circumventing Epson's efforts to force me to buy their ink cartridges was very satisfying. Never update your Firmware, no matter what Epson tells you.

Guest

I am so livid right now. I want to throw my printer outside in the street.

My ink was working great and now boom. What a bunch of jerks.

Guest

Same. will NEVER EVER EVER get back together (with Epson). You are dead to me!

Guest

I am experiencing the same issue and I will never buy another Epson product again if I verify this is correct. After a firmware update, new cartridges that were working no longer works!

Guest

Same problem. This is like if auto manufacturers made cars that would only run on Mobil gas, or would only accept Firestone tires.

They would be sued out of existence. So why is Epson allowed to get away with it?

Guest

after update. my printer will not recognize 2 of the 4 cartridge's that were already in use.

Guest

Same!!!!!!!!!

Guest

I too will never buy Epson products again. My printer is almost brand new and now locked into "add Epson Ink" Hoping there is away around the $100 ink package.

Printer repair and aftermarket supplies reseller here. For those that have downloaded the firmware updates by Epson and they bricked your printer, just be aware that HP does this as well.

Brother is starting to use smart chips. So before you shoot yourself in the foot, Buyer Beware. To avoid bricking, always, always, disable automatic updates and never update the firmware unless you have an issue that can be corrected by it. Even then, make sure your supplier is selling current chip versions.

I wouldn't trust many of the sellers on Amazon, nor many on the internet in general to sell you current product. The quality aftermarket companies are working on updating their chips, but it takes time. Most, if not all, of the aftermarket cartridges for EPSON come from overseas (China). There are only a few aftermarket chip makers in the world and they specialized in different market segments.

Manufacturers have lost recent cases in court on this issue and in the past, and are constantly being sued by practices like this. EPSON has a pending case in Federal Court against them. HP may as well. The cases will take time, but by the time it is resolved, your printer will be outdated and not working.

The manufacturers must be very careful on how they present these updates to the consumer, they cannot be sneaky about it, so read everything before purchasing their products (printer, cartridges, the prompts during set-up, go through the menus to disable the updates...everything). They are under no obligation to give away their market share or make it easy for aftermarket companies, though they are prohibited from bundling and forcing you to purchase their products (Magnuson-Moss ACT of 1975). Another note, Manufacturers like EPSON, CANON and HP will also sue the aftermarket companies preemptively on patent infringements (chips, cartridge components and design, etc.) to stop or slow the erosion of their very profitable market.

Personally, I would never recommend an EPSON printer and not because of this reason but the product is trash from a service perspective. The EPSON Ink printers have a slew of issues with their print heads and have for years.

Problem connecting to Wi-Fi since day 1. After the latest firmware update, the printer stopped recognizing non-Epson print cartridges.

Can't pass the error screen; I don't have the cable needed to roll back the firmware.

There's no way to contact Epson via email or live chat. They effectively brick your printer if you don't buy their ink.

Printer stopped working after warranty

Epson - Printer stopped working after warranty

I'm very unhappy. I just bought this.

I used it about five times, and it stopped working, and customer service tells me that it's a hardware failure and that they will give me a discount to buy a new one. I am not buying a new one. I want my money back. This is ridiculous.

I barely use this printer, and it just decides not to work.

I'm very upset! This is a gamut.

EPSON Printer Review

*****DO NOT BUY EPSON PRINTERS...READ THIS FIRST***** I have been a long-time user of Epson printers, but I am extremely disappointed with the company's decision to block aftermarket ink cartridges through firmware updates. This tactic feels deceptive and unfair, as it forces loyal customers like myself to purchase Epson's overpriced ink.

Printers are expensive enough, and this approach adds unnecessary financial burden.

I believe customers should have the freedom to choose affordable alternatives without being penalized by restrictive firmware. This move shows a lack of care for customer satisfaction and loyalty. I hope Epson reconsiders this practice and prioritizes the needs of its users over profit. Until then, I cannot recommend Epson products to others.

I wouldn't buy the cure for cancer from Epson. I pains me to give them a single star.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I bought an ET-2800 for a very light-use printer to have around the house for the occasional print and scan. I had low expectations, but hear me when I say that Epson went out of their way to prove they could make my experience suck more than getting you junk caught in a sausage grinder.

When you can get it to stay connected to the internet, you can try to print or scan, but the real fun begins when it breaks, and you attempt to get a replacement.

They are like insurance companies; they stall you with nonsense and refuse assistance until you break and give up.

They have a known W-01 error where the printer says there is a jam and there isn't. It's all over the internet and will most likely end up as a class-action lawsuit. Our printer had about 25 pages printed on it when the error occurred. We tried to get it replaced by emailing their support several times, and they just ghosted us.

I called and they said that they would CONSIDER replacing it if I provided pictures of the receipt, pictures of the error warning, pictures of the tubes inside, the serial number, etc. Well, I sent all of that and never heard back from them. After months of fighting with them, I called again, and they said that they wanted to see the bottles of ink that I used. This is BS, of course.

They were trying to weasel out of it by accusing me of buying compatible ink, which was nonsense because we were still on the original ink, and I lost it. They then said that the receipt I provided wasn't good enough, and they needed an invoice. This is the game with them. They just give you the run around until you quit.

It's truthfully a horrible company, and they do not care. They weigh the cost associated with the replacement against profits and do not care one bit that they are selling you complete garbage.

They have your money, and you can go screw as far as they are concerned. As the title says, I wouldn't buy the cure for cancer from Epson at this point.

Complaint about Epson customer Service -unprofessional

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Beware! This ET 4850 all-in-one printer has been defective since about 4 months from purchase.

I bought new, and initially, support was able to fix issues until 8 months from purchase when it stopped printing. It would spit out a blank page, and you couldn't scan. Any paper in the feeder would cause the documents to jam. What a headache!

I thought I was in manufacturer warranty at 8 months; they did all further testing and deemed the unit defective. Here I thought I would get a new replacement since I purchased new, but Epson said they would replace it with a refurbished one and not new! I didn't agree with this policy because I purchased new, and I wanted new. I spoke to numerous people in customer service; I even asked could I get credit towards a different printer, but the answer was no!

I spoke to an agent, then a supervisor named Kim, then I requested the one above the supervisor, that would be a rude customer relations representative at corporate no less, named Carrie M at 562-276-****. What an unprofessional work of art, horrible employee! She started to read part of the warranty that said they would replace it with refurbished, and when she read info I didn't understand, I would ask her can she explain, and she said, 'I'm not an attorney.' 'Will you let me finish reading this?' Like I said, an absolute worthless employee! No one can do anything except send a refurbished printer and get worthless customer service!

I expected more from Epson! I hope Shaquille O'Neal and the entire Epson board hears about this and the so many customers disgusted with Epson!

You don’t have a loss. You have the solution your warranty promised and your refusal of it’s terms.

The warranty you obviously did not read before making your purchase.

So now you have nothing. But you do not have a loss.

Beki A Lwx
reply icon Replying to comment of Guest-2697756

Mr or Ms “Guest” Although my negative comment was MY EXPERIENCE in part about the warranty, the emphasis was on the fact that the CUSTOMER SERVICE was horrible. When people respond anonymously to a negative review like you have, it’s difficult to assess the credibility of your response.

And you clearly either work at Epson or have family there because of your response. When a company has great staff and customer service, they can solve ANY issue with professionalism. Their staff lacks professionalism, not all but some. One, took it upon herself to read part of the warranty…but when I asked her to explain what she read, looks like she didn’t understand it either and got RUDE!

That is NOT acceptable in customer service because I was never rude to any of them. In terms of READING the warranty before you buy…the warranty is in the BOX! You could also check the warranty of your Epson printer, using the Warranty Verification tool on their website, but you NEED the printer's serial number available to enter into the tool! (So, you need to buy it!!) Alternatively, you can contact Epson Support directly to verify your warranty but they will ask for the Serial Number!

Not easy unless you purchase the printer. Bottom line, Customer service needs resolve issues not cause them!

And people who want to comment on someone’s negative review shouldn’t hide behind the anonymity of their post….grow a backbone! One more thing, don’t even waste time replying, because I have better things to do.

Beki or Guest or whatever name, all are equally non-identifying. I do not nor do I know anyone affiliated with Epson.

This site gets 3+ million visitors a month. Anyone can comment. The bottom line is the warranty. And no, you are wrong.

You need the serial number to REGISTER your product/warranty. Not to read it. It can be accessed online PRIOR to your purchase. Typical jump first ask questions later behavior.

You take issue with the warranty and are trying to make a CSR’s perceived rudeness an issue. That doesn’t change your warranty.

It just adds another false entry on your irresponsible list of grievances you cause yourself. #lightweight

The supervisor should not have to read and explain anything to you. YOU are supposed to before you make the decision to purchase.

If there are terms you don’t like. Don’t purchase.

Printer uses ink pads that can only be replaced by authorized dealer.

Printer uses ink pads that can only be replaced by an authorized dealer. Support suggested I buy a new one at a discount, not happening.

Only lasted 2 years and now is completely unusable. This is an unacceptable practice, implying a bait and switch practice.

The closest repair shop is 61 miles away, cost including shipping $124.00 (not including my cost to ship to shop) for a $300.00 printer.

Will not honor warranty

Epson is by far one of the worst printer companies I have ever dealt with. I have the Epson Ecotank 15000.

It's still under warranty, and they will not honor it. They stop working after at least a year, and then you have to purchase another one.

All of the agents are inconsiderate. Nobody has $800-1,000 to waste on a printer that will stop working after a year of use.
