Problem wasn’t solved! Frustrated!!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I didnt get my problem solved. I have called 3 times.

The first rep, Alma did well, but when I tried to print after we ended the call. I still couldnt! I called again today and spoke with Bree and she had a lisp and I had to keep asking her to repeat and then she hung up on me. The last person, Tin was very helpful, but then she asked me what application I was using and I didnt know what she meant.

If she would have said Safari or Chrome, I would have been able to answer her. My printer still is not able to print off my iMac and I am still frustrated.

If someone would call me I would appreciate it.

I need to print things for my tax return and this is ridiculous!

If I call again, I fear that the printer still wont work! Thank you, Cassandra McElroy 714-422-****

After firmware update, cartridges not recognized

I Installed a firmware update, and now the printer can no longer "recognize" my print cartridges which had been working fine until the update. Word on the Internet is that Epson deliberately tries to punish people who buy replacement cartridges from other vendors, so they can sell their overpriced ones, and they do that by updating the firmware so that other vendor cartridges are "not recognized".

This is despicable. I will never buy another Epson product. They have even spawned a cottage industry that for $5 sells a firmware downgrade.

It is cheaper to buy a new printer than to buy Epson replacement cartridges. Their business practices are predatory and should be illegal.

That appears to be my experience as well! I will no longer purchase another Epson. AND I will tell others!

Epson is a horrible product backed by a useless company support team. You cannot call them.

You have to email them to discuss the problem with my 3 month old printer that only prints in yellow now. After repeated useless emails from a so called support team telling me I need to replace all my ink cartridges, which still did not correct problem, They tell me to call them. Excuse me but That was the first thing I tried and it told me I had to email support team. Wow!!

How professional are these people that they do not even know what is going on in there own support network.

Nothing has ever been resolved from this mess. Very unsatisfied with Epson product and company and their useless support or warranty!

Guest

I just updated the firmware on an epson WF-2850 it now tells me 3 of 4 cartridges are empty after i just them in. i guess I'm going to pull out the HP and get some cartridges for it this epson all in one is junk

Guest

This just happened to me. I just updated and now my Epson XP5100 will not read the black cartridge.

All are refilled.

I don't print that much, I only bought this about 6 months ago. I'm going to Walmart and by a $40.00 Canon.

You can find instructions online (including some on Youtube and some much further down this thread) that tell you how to uninstall the new firmware and reinstall the old firmware. I did that a few years ago and haven't had any problems since. Just make sure to disenable automatic updates so you don't encounter the same problem again.

Guest

Boycott Epson . Their software updates refuse to accept non epson cartridges.

This is illegal.

their cartridges are massively overpriced. Dont touch with a bargepole.

Guest

I totally agree--This happened to me this past week. I am done with Epson.

Guest

Have spent 8 hours trying to fix it XP-440 as they told me to place a new Firmware update... and poof now the ink catridges that have been working for 2 years no longer works///

Romi Acc

You need to find an older version of the Firmware and go back to that. You can find videos on youtube that tell you how to do it.

I did that several years ago and haven't had a problem since.

Circumventing Epson's efforts to force me to buy their ink cartridges was very satisfying. Never update your Firmware, no matter what Epson tells you.

Guest

I am so livid right now. I want to throw my printer outside in the street.

My ink was working great and now boom. What a bunch of jerks.

Guest

Same. will NEVER EVER EVER get back together (with Epson). You are dead to me!

Guest

I am experiencing the same issue and I will never buy another Epson product again if I verify this is correct. After a firmware update, new cartridges that were working no longer works!

Guest

Same problem. This is like if auto manufacturers made cars that would only run on Mobil gas, or would only accept Firestone tires.

They would be sued out of existence. So why is Epson allowed to get away with it?

Guest

after update. my printer will not recognize 2 of the 4 cartridge's that were already in use.

Guest

Same!!!!!!!!!

Guest

I too will never buy Epson products again. My printer is almost brand new and now locked into "add Epson Ink" Hoping there is away around the $100 ink package.

Printer repair and aftermarket supplies reseller here. For those that have downloaded the firmware updates by Epson and they bricked your printer, just be aware that HP does this as well.

Brother is starting to use smart chips. So before you shoot yourself in the foot, Buyer Beware. To avoid bricking, always, always, disable automatic updates and never update the firmware unless you have an issue that can be corrected by it. Even then, make sure your supplier is selling current chip versions.

I wouldn't trust many of the sellers on Amazon, nor many on the internet in general to sell you current product. The quality aftermarket companies are working on updating their chips, but it takes time. Most, if not all, of the aftermarket cartridges for EPSON come from overseas (China). There are only a few aftermarket chip makers in the world and they specialized in different market segments.

Manufacturers have lost recent cases in court on this issue and in the past, and are constantly being sued by practices like this. EPSON has a pending case in Federal Court against them. HP may as well. The cases will take time, but by the time it is resolved, your printer will be outdated and not working.

The manufacturers must be very careful on how they present these updates to the consumer, they cannot be sneaky about it, so read everything before purchasing their products (printer, cartridges, the prompts during set-up, go through the menus to disable the updates...everything). They are under no obligation to give away their market share or make it easy for aftermarket companies, though they are prohibited from bundling and forcing you to purchase their products (Magnuson-Moss ACT of 1975). Another note, Manufacturers like EPSON, CANON and HP will also sue the aftermarket companies preemptively on patent infringements (chips, cartridge components and design, etc.) to stop or slow the erosion of their very profitable market.

Personally, I would never recommend an EPSON printer and not because of this reason but the product is trash from a service perspective. The EPSON Ink printers have a slew of issues with their print heads and have for years.

Frustrated old technology

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Computer is fine. Printer says it's connected to the network, but when printing it says the printer is in an error status.

I've spent almost 2 hours trying to figure this out. Updated firmware, tried everything. Horrible interface. Hard to understand.

This has been my experience with multiple Epson models. The layout of the buttons and interface is never easy to use. Common sense won't get you very far with one of these printers. It's time for Epson to get on board with where technology should be in 2025.

It should not be hard to buy a printer, hook it to your computer, and print or scan a document. And enough with the firmware updates; give us a product that is good when we buy it and never has to be changed. Like, what in the world are we doing? Definitely getting my mom a newer, easier-to-use printer and smashing this one into a million pieces.

Will never, ever buy Epson. And if I could rate it zero stars, I would.

Cons:
  • Absolutely everything

Preferred solution: Nothing. I just want Epson to make a good printer that a 60 to 70-year-old person would be able to connect to a computer with ease.

Terrible customer service

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

I spent $80 on a brand new ink cartridge for my Epson 3880 printer. The cartridge failed to work right out of the box, which, from my scanning of the internet, appears to be a not uncommon problem.

I called Epson for support. They were quite confrontational and ultimately connected me to a supervisor, Carl Rommel M, who requested some additional information and promised to call me back the next morning. I never heard another thing from him and that was days ago. I tried calling Epson again and after being left on hold for a total of almost 30 minutes, I just gave up.

If you do any high-end photo printing, stick with Canon. I have always had good luck with them.

Epson Sucks

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review updated Feb 05, 2025

I am getting so beyond frustrated with this printer. I am constantly becoming so infuriated with its speed, quality, and general connectability.

When I use the app on my phone it automatically crops the image and does not give me the option to fix it no matter what I try. I have tried it all I am constantly around technically and understand how it works. When I print from my computer it takes so very long to even start/finish printing, if it ever even starts in the first place. It's like it gets stuck.

Ever since I bought this printer BRAND NEW it has not worked properly in the slightest. I was so excited to bring home a new printer as I have never bought myself a new printer before.

Jokes on me I should have stuck with the one I bought from a yardsale 5 years ago as it was better than this one in so many ways. I am very upset that I wasted my money on this and I will not be recommending epson printers to anyone i hope that i can save others from making the mistake that I did.

Also, I tried contacting the customer service team through the website and it kept giving me an error message.

Unusable printer

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

after looking into the best printers for photo work, and the fact that the Epson 15000 had 2 additional inks. I received it as a Christmas gift a year ago.

After 3 1/2 to 4 months the screen said incompatible ink. It was the original ink just replaced 2. After numerous attempts to clear this screen, nothing worked, I couldnt even get to the Home Screen. Contacted their joke for customer service.

Did the usual, turn off, unplug, etc. nothing, was told to go to Home Screen. Couldnt. Was told i would get a call back from another tech.

Nothing.

I shut down the machine and let it set for a week or more. Same screen. Shut it down, contacted them again, no fix. Shut it down, then it didnt want to turn back on.

After numerous tries it turned back on and the incompatible screen had 40 to 50 vertical lines scrambling the screen. Contacted again, nothing but the same. After shutting it down again, i then had nothing but an all white screen. Contacted again.

Was asked to send pics. I did. The response was, they couldnt read the error. There was no error, just a white screen.

Just contacted them again, now they say its a hardware problem, and the printer is out of warranty. It wasnt out of warranty when all of this started 9 months ago.

They say that the warranty isnt transferable. From who, the person that bought it for me as a present?

Was told i could ship it to a service repair at my own expense.

9 to 10 months ago they should have replaced this.

I hope that Shaquille knows who hes representing

Epson ET 2800 never worked

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full

Unboxed the printer, set it up, and it would not print. Only blank pages come out.

I spent hours troubleshooting and trying different solutions, but it just wouldn't work. As a stay-at-home mom juggling school and family life, I needed something reliable, but this printer was a total waste of time. It's frustrating to spend money on something that doesn't even do the basic function it's meant to. I would not recommend this to anyone.

To make matters worse, Epson has been no help at all. I reached out to their customer service, hoping for a simple exchange or at least some guidance on how to fix the issue, but they were unresponsive and not at all helpful. I'm extremely frustrated.

As a busy mom, I don't have time to waste dealing with faulty products and poor customer service. This experience has been nothing but a headache.

First time buyer/user of ANY Epson product, I purchased a WF-4834 (WF-4830) from a Sam's club. No issue there.

2) Voice recording of Shaquille O'Neal is over the top abusive/abrasive to hear

3) Issue is with inability to scan to my laptop via Wireless.

4) Have now placed (3) calls to customer support.

Unable to open the scan tool, was told to download a scan tool ap.

Seriously? It should be easier than this

Printers are junk

I bought both an Epson EcoTank 2800 and an Epson EcoTank 2803 for my job. I print on them daily; however, I don't print a lot.

Generally, just one page or so. Both of my machines stopped printing black. I continued to try to fix it, and now it is saying that my ink pad needs to be replaced and I have to take it to Epson. It is horrific how they treat their customers.

These items are not cheap and now I am forced to go buy another one despite having already bought two. This has cost me so much money and time and they couldn't care less.
