Purchased an Epson printer and because they changed the game I can no longer use it unless I buy overpriced Epson ink. They updated the firmware without telling me about the change. Raw greed.

Epson in Oil City, Pennsylvania - Malicious firmware no better than adware or spyware.

I am so disgusted with Epson right now. I purchased my Epson 446 printer. I purchased my ink. In no way should Epson be able to lock up my printer because I choose to use re-purposed ink cartridges. I bought this printer because I am a Girl Scout Leader/Volunteer who wears many hats. I need a printer that will hold up. I also need a printer for some small home jobs too. I was in the middle of a print job and locked up because I decided to run the firmware update and now it will not recognize my ink. I wasted money buying this printer because now I cannot do anything with it. I just purchased $50+ in ink. I will not be forced to use Epson ink. I will go buy a new printer, and I will never recommend or buy another Epson product.

If you want to put up with lame software telling you to buy more ink this one is for you. Their customer service is also lame. Buy something else if you actually want to print something. For some reason, the printer always thinks magenta is low on ink. It will not print gray scale or black and white unless all colors think they have ink. The ink is there but the software holds your printout as ransom until you buy more ink. They should be sued for selling a product that refuses to work even though the customer tells it to print.

Epson in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - First unit DOA. Replacement DOA. WF-3640 SUCKS!

I bought a new WF-3640 from Amazon. It could not complete the start-up cycle with paper jam messages, yet no paper installed!! Got a replacement from Epson. Can't complete the set up cycle - -grinding noises, error messages and eventually paper jam messages again!! I am sending them both back and going with another brand. I found a handful of other reviews with the EXACT same problem on Amazon. Must be a major quality control issue at the factory. Did I mention that I had to spend 30 mins on the phone with tech support for EACH problem. I had to repeat my name and info to the guy about three times and he still got it wrong!

I'm sorry you've had such bad luck with Epson. My first Epson lasted 8 years and never had an issue.

After trying several others and returning them, I purchased another Epson before Christmas last year, and it works like a dream, and when the time comes again, I'll probably purchase another.

It very well could be a batch issue, but whatever the problem, I hope you've found one by now that works well for you.

Epson Scanner does not work

I own an Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner. The scanner is about 15 months old with very, very light use and it no longer works at all. On April 26, 2010 Epson's call center in a foreign country suggested that I take the scanner to a service center 40 miles away with all charges being my responsibility. The call center connected me with a person named "Burn" who suggested I use the password of "smell" to get a $20.00 discount on a new scanner. The password "smell" becomes invalid in 4 days on April 30th. I thought the password choice was worth a personal chuckle. How silly and ironic can they be? I was told corporate chooses the passwords. How appropriate! Avoid Epson.
