Epson printers suck.
Epson printers will not work if one of the four color cartridges is empty. I tried to print a letter (black and white), but the magenta ink cartridge was empty.
I went to the Printer Properties and set it to print "Black Ink Only", but that didn't even work. I called their customer service, and a person who could barely speak English said there is no way to by-pass the problem. He also admitted that ALL of their printers are like this. I shouldn't have to purchase over-priced ink that I don't need to make the printer work.
My suggestion to anyone looking to buy a printer to avoid Epsons.

Common Sense? There's a difference between a DAM car and a DAM printer that won't allow you to even print something in BLACK!
I have 12-year old son, that hasn't gotten to finish his school projects lately, because of a *** printer that needs all the inks! Now my son knows not to ever buy an Epson printer ever again.
common sense?!? really?
Your analogy is ridiculous. If you are going to use something that makes any sense... It might be you have to refill all the fluids in your car because your transmission oil is low. But then that would follow that the car was a piece of poorly engineered garbage, much like this fellow's Epson.
The truth is a lot of low end consumer printers (not high-end anything) pulls this little trick on everyone. You don't find out the whole ink cartage needs replacing when one colour runs out till a month after you bought it. Then is "sorry sir we only return 7 days after you buy... Lesson research.
oh and buy something besides epson.
Your comment is completely ridiculous. People are yelling at Epson, because they adopted a flawed design that is ultimately meant to rip people off with needing to constantly replace ink.
No other brand printer disables itself when it runs out a yellow ink. I ditched Epson and bought an HP. Guess what? It can print in black without color ink.
A better analogy would be if Ford designed their cars to only use Ford gas, and the further designed the car to not start unless you had yellow ink installed in your Epson printer.
Why would you need yellow ink to print in black? Probably the same reason why you would need yellow ink to start your Ford Mustang.
I know where the epson office is. I wonder if I delivered my piece of sheet to the front desk if they might get the point.
I wonder if there office uses their products? I figure they have a Xerox that works.
I have an epson all in one printer and it is suppose to a wifi. Can't get the dam thing to work unless I turn it off and on, scanner works when the it wants to (I think it has to do with the position of the stars and sun spots).
I bought it cause it was the cheapest printer.
The best incident with this printer was when it decided to print 3 pages of a document that I had sent and forgot to delete, my computer was off and the printer just started to print totally on it's own.
I tried Epson help, you to can call yourself Epson IT help "turn off and then on again".
I have never bought anything from them or there affiliated companies since. I even told a person looking at one in a store that they would spend more time screwing around with it than it took to print.
Still trying to figure out how to get it to connect to scan.Computer says it is and nothing ever happens.
I guess companies can sell *** and think they are making money, tomorrow they will have more excuses why they can't.
EPSON CX4800 All-in-one 4th set of Ink pustules because they surely aren't a cartridge worth. I have 3 8x10 color pictures and maybe a dozen forms and a few lists and this all cost only a little under $235.00. When I asked EPSON I get;

Resolved meaning I am going to quit waisting my time and money on epson.
Concellation: $100 Scanner.
Have just replaced a black Epson Cartridge and Epson says Not recognised, purchased from Epson, genuine product. Think there maybe a faulty batch.
I am now stuck with a printer that has locked up, 4 new cartridges, plus spares all genuine and a printer that won't work.
Never again Epson. My fourth Epson product and last. To say I am pissed is mild
Pieve of junk. Full cartridges and paper just runs through the printer without printing. Epson CAO unqualified for their jobs and full of *** People, never by an Epson
This junk wont print if one of your colors runs out....I wanted to make a copy in a rush black/white and the *** thing locked out saying i had to replaced the yellow color......i still had a full black&white WTF???!!! someone should shut down this lousy greedy company screw them and their junk....straight to the dumpster even though its semi new.
Epson pioneered this practice, however you will find that ALL printer manufacturers now do this.
The official story is that in order to optimize colour blending and to provide true toners during photo printing a "true" black ink is not used. Therefore all of your colour cartridges are used to darked and sharpen the black.
Every, and I do mean every printer you buy will do this.
Knowing this, buy a brother printer as you can get compatibles for next to nothing.
epson printers $2.00 to $3.00 per page to print even black & white or text. by the time you replace the ink cartridges every week its cheaper to go to Kinkos.
Sorry about the double post. Computer hates me today.
Sorry, sorry........... :roll
Looks like all these units are junk, just made to get the chance to rip you off on the ink. Here's my tale of woe.....Bought the NX -100 a little over a year ago, liked it for about a month, before it started fighting with me Every Day.
First it ran through ink in half the time of any other printer I'd ever seen, until I stopped buying their cartridges and started using generics that oddly enough had Twice as much ink as the official Eppies. Then the machine started detecting the unofficial cartridges and refusing to print with them installed. Overcame that with refillables that reset the Epson smart reader and pretended they were Eppie cartridges. Thought I ws finally home free until today, when the machine again refused to print, this time posting an onscreen note "There are internal parts which have reached the end of their service life.
Contact Epson Support for Servicing" And of course it locked down and won't print. Contacted support, got an unlock code to reset the internal "pages printed counter" spent an hour uploading, downloading, fighting with my Vista software about being allowed to run the Epson page count fix software, etc. surprise, the software posted its own message that the unit did not need to be re-set and shut itself down, but still left the printer refusing to print, because IT has decided its at end of life and steadfastly refuses to print. Scanner, Fax, Printer, now all dead because the ink sponges are full and you can't change them or get new ones unless you ship the little *** to a service center.
BTW, contacted them, and they confirm its not worth the trouble to do the service, so they just send you a refurbed unit for $100.00 or so, and "recycle the ones that declare they're dead" So basically, twice the ink cost of any other printer, until you get past the cartridge analyser inside, constantly rejecting unofficial ink, slow as *** to decide to print when it actually does, and after a year of light office work, it declares itself dead in the water and suggests you go buy a replacement. Want to guess what brand will Never come home with me again?

When I first purchased my computer the Epson printer comes along with it..ITS FREE. So what the heck.
I'll take it. Little did I know. Either the black or one of the colored goes out. The darn thing doesn't work.
Even though if I needed the black ink only print. All the color have to print. WTH..So four ink replacement later. I had it.
The ink itself is not cheap. Black run around 17ish. The color 14ish. All 3 color about 30 or 40 dollar.
The all 4 color run about a shy of 52 dollar. NOT WORTH BUYING. The machine works great but they have to do something about the ink. Now I took it off and bought HP Officejet.
With this one, you got your money worth. You can print the black without interfering with the color. Ink is cheaper too.
I'm happy with my HP Oficejet. :)
I to just had the issue at a time i really needed the printer to print for my wife. i am so pissed i wont go buy any ink for this printer, in fact i am going to buy a different printer rather than support epson. Additionally i will never any branded with the epson name, thats how aggravated i was and still am.
